A Case Report of Typhoid Fever Complicated by Myocarditis

Abstract
|

|
A 15 year old girl with documented typhoid fever manifested very severe symptoms and unusual complications. These included (1) typoid myocarditis characterized by serial EKG changes and clinically severe dyspnea, lethargy, ;drowsiness, and marked elevations of LDH and serum transaminase activity, (2) pneumonia, (3) typhoid hepatitis presumed histologically and clinically, and (4) clinical evidence of typhoid nephritis.
Diagnosis of typhoid fever was confirmed by growth of Salmonella typhi both in blood and bone marrow aspirates culture. She was discharged on the 21st hospital day with full recovery.
